SHOREWOOD – The Shorewood Police Department promoted one of its current officers and welcomed two more to its ranks during an event March 28.

Shorewood Mayor Rick Chapman swore in James Welsh and Michael Alvarado, who attend the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy in Glen Ellyn, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page.

At the culmination of their 14 weeks at SLEA, they will return to the village and begin a field training program this summer.

“We welcome James, Michael and their families to our department!” the post said.

Chapman also promoted officer James Butcher to sergeant. Butcher has worked for several years within the department’s Traffic Division before doing a brief stint in Investigations. He now will move on to his next assignment as a patrol sergeant.

“The event was well attended and is bittersweet for the department as a whole. With the new additions to the department, this brought our total number of sworn officers to it’s [sic] highest total since 2008,” according to the post. “A sincere thank you to all that made this possible in order to better serve our growing community.”
