Heartland Bank and Trust Co. in Minooka presented their 2017 Heart of Our Community award to Allison Selk at the November Chamber Business After Hours gathering.

This award was established to recognize local Minooka residents who have stood out for volunteering with their time and talent to help others.

The Heart of Our Community award was presented by Terri Turney, retail manager for Heartland Bank. Heartland Bank recognizes its responsibility extends beyond providing financial services to the communities they serve.

“Allison has helped with so many different programs in the community,” Turney said. “She has developed programs and events to feed the hungry in the community. Selk has also lead humanitarian efforts to Haiti in the time of need. She has done so much for the local children, especially around the holidays, from organizing gifts for economically at risk children, children whose parents are unable to provide and children in foster care.”

Selk, who is a contributing writer for The Herald-News, received a $100 Minooka Chamber gift certificate and a “Heart” award.
