The bingo and ice cream social for seniors was a big hit at Channahon's Three Rivers Festival Friday.
The bingo tent was pack with well over 100 guests; each keeping a watchful eye on several Bingo cards at a time.
This is the first year the event was held, said festival co-chairman Mike Rittof. And it couldn't have gone better.
"It's going awesome," Rittof said. "My personal goal was 100 (guests)."
The bingo and ice cream social event was sponsored by Channahon Lions Club and Channahon Township. Ice cream was provided by T & S Concessions of Mokena, a vendor at the festival.
Guests had a choice of vanilla soft serve covered in hot fudge, caramel or both.
As typical with an ice cream social, guests were encouraged to visit with each other.
"If you don't know your neighbor, take a minute to introduce yourself," Rittof said during a quick break in the action.
In between games, there were door prizes provided by the sponsors. Everything from a deck of cards and boxes of candy to a snack basket filled with treats and a bottle of wine, which brought a lot of cheers from the crowd.
Walt Lindstrom was one of the many bingo winners. His luck brought him a cash prize of $10, which he promptly handed to his wife, Peggy Lindstrom.
"She gets any winnings over two dollars," he said with a chuckle.
Peggy agreed, and said that includes lottery winnings, too.
The Minooka High School girls varsity volleyball team had 14 members volunteering for the event. They helped pass out bingo cards, take ice cream orders and waited on the guests.
Everyone was so pleased with the service, many wanted to tip the girls who were doing community service, so the money will go to the volleyball program, Rittof said.
"It was actually really fun," said team member Rylee Ritchey. "We were a lot busier than we thought we would be."
The turnout was great and the weather was perfect for two hours of bingo games outdoors along with an ice cream social.
"I'm having a great time," said Walt Lindstrom. " This was very nicely done."
